"AROW", a platform for building AR smartphone applications using location information and 3D real maps developed by Drecom Co., Ltd., has developed a new map data management system for "AROW" and conducted a demonstration experiment with Onacasoft Co., Ltd. to verify its effectiveness.

In the development of applications using map data, it is not easy to handle the large amount and variety of map data, and there are high hurdles to overcome even just to browse the data. In addition, such map data needs to be updated on a regular basis, and each developer needs to add and modify their own map data.
These issues are considered to be common among companies that use "AROW", and we aim to provide solutions as part of "AROW" in the form of a map data management system.

As a first step in providing solutions, we have set up functions to provide a management system at the time of commercialization of "AROW", such as migration of updated data, a viewer function for map data, and a function for adding and editing unique POIs. In addition to the development of these functions, we conducted a demonstration experiment to measure the effect of man-hour reduction with the cooperation of Onaka Co.

In the demonstration experiment, it was verified that the map data management system can reduce the man-hours required to update map data, etc. by about 1/20th, and feedback was obtained, including opinions on improving usability.
Based on the results of this demonstration experiment, we plan to modify and improve the map data management system in parallel with the development of "AROW" itself, with the aim of commercialization.
